Like Family
Mat is the co founder of Like Family, a social care organisation supporting NDIS participants and older Australians to build stronger social connections and live more independently. Originally from Canada and now based in Sydney, he has spent the past decade growing Like Family from a small startup into a national provider working with partners across the disability and aged care sectors. With deep experience in NDIS operations, budgeting and service delivery, Mat focuses on how funding and policy translate into real outcomes for participants and providers on the ground. He is passionate about using data, technology and human centred design to create more transparent, sustainable and person centred support models.
Mat's commitment to care is deeply personal. At just 25, he became the primary carer for both of his parents, later losing his father to cancer and continuing to care for his mother today. This lifetime of lived experience as a primary carer is what drives him to deliver high-quality, person-centred care through Like Family.Outside of work, Mat is a keen endurance and functional fitness athlete, balancing competitive training with parenting 2 children and running a fast paced scaleup.

How funding decisions will really be made from assessments to budgets
Will standardised assessments deliver fairer, more consistent budgets, or reduce flexibility and create unintended inequities across participant groups and needs?
Understand how budgets will actually be determined in practice, how transparency will (or won’t) show up, and how to align service delivery to tighter, more structured funding models
